Collingwood is a town in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Georgian Bay. Collingwood was Iroquois territory through the 1600 and 1700's. European settlers arrived in the town in the mid 1800's. Collingwood is off Highway 26 2 hours north of Toronto and 45 minutes west of Barrie. Nestled on Georgian Bay Collingwood became the central shipyard to the great lakes for importing and exporting. Having it's own dry docks Collingwood had a flourishing ship building and repair community supporting all types of vessels.
Collingwood offers every type of property you can imagine from a waterfront home or cottage, to a beautiful Victorian in town to the newer neighbourhoods of smaller bungalows and detached 2 story homes.
There has been a real growth in Collingwood from being a small quaint town with Blue Mountain to a recluse for retiring city dwellers to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city but still have all the amenities need to enjoy a full life.
Collingwood has grown to include Waterfront condos and senior residences as well as smaller lots with bungalows and 2 story homes with perfect views of the mountains. Of course we still see your Blue Mountain Chalets and Georgian Bay Cottages but now Collingwood has shifted real estate to a more premanent residence.
Prices have gone up substancially in this area due to the demand of people moving north. You still have the ivestors and investment properties but this is a much smaller prtion of the market.
Collingwood is every outdoor persons dream. Yes, you have the traditional slopes of Blue Mountain for skiing and snowboarding. Yes. you have Georgian Bay for all your watersports delight. There is the 100's of miles of trails for moutain biking, hiking and running. You have your winter trails for cross coutry skiing and snowmobiling tht can take you all over the region. All this is in Collingwood but what we miss talking about is the family and seniors oriented town with everything at your door step.
Most smaller towns we talk about how close you are to a larger city but in Collingwood this is not the case. Infact people drive for hours to come to Collingwood just to walk down main street and window shop in all the quaint country stores, eat at a renowned 5 star restaurant or participate in all the town events held 12 months a year.
Collingwood is a special town and the residence boast of what a perfect place to live.
