Mulmur flows along the famous Niagara Escarpment. The fertile fields above the escarpment provide a prime environment for the cultivation of a variety of crops including vast quantities of potatoes, apples and livestock. The escarpment itself consists of steep slopes and river valleys surrounded by extensive forests. Below it, Mulmur descends into gently rolling farmlands and rural areas.
The area was initially settled by Europeans, primarily the Irish along with the English and Scottish, in the 1830’s. The Township of Mulmur was incorporated in 1851. In 2001 we celebrated our 150th birthday! Mulmur Township has changed considerably over the years and while it still encompasses some traditional agricultural family farms, has become a preferred area for weekend country retreats as well as home to a great many commuters.
The Village of Mulmur offers you a haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Renowned for its natural beauty and scenic hills, it is an area of rolling hills, views and vistas, rivers and streams. provincial parks, including the Pine and Boyne River systems, Bruce Trail, and the Niagara Escarpment. Downhill skiing, cross country skiing, golf, horseback riding and miles of walking trails are all easily accessible. In Mulmur you can still find affordable properties with space and privacy for weekend, retirement, or commuting to the city 5 days a week.
The area provides excellent amenities such as hospitals, schools, shopping, entertainment and sports facilities to meet everyones needs. A wonderful township to raise a family perfect for all outdoor activities from skiing, skating and snowmobiling in the winter to hiking camping, swimming and biking in the summer. Mulmur is part of the Nottawasaga River system, which has its headwaters in Melancthon. The Pine River and Boyne River are wonderful rivers for canoeing and kyaking. The Mulmur Hills present a dramatic natural feature particularly during the fall colour season.
